Treehouse foods incorporated is a private snack and beverage manufacturer based in North America, they have 26 facilities across America and Canada their website claims they stand for “uncompromising standards of food safety and quality underpinned by manufacturing best practices, a process-driven culture and continues improvement principles”. However their recent contamination outbreak has left consumers and retailers questioning the credibility of this incorporation’s claims.

Bacteria commonly found in raw meat is the reason for 698 waffle products treehouse foods has voluntarily recalled across stores in Canada and America, despite the fact this bacterial infection is very rare, the manufacture has felt it is necessary to release a list on their website detailing product names, photos and the UPC on the back of the product box to ensure consumers and retailers can identify the contaminated products, treehouse foods have advised that listed products need to be returned to place of purchase to receive store credit, or to be disposed of at home.

Listeria Monocytogens is an organism that can cause serious illness and fatal symptoms for children, elderly and those with a weakened immune system, listeria monocytogens infection can cause still birth and miscarriage amongst pregnant women, Those healthy individuals may suffer from short-term flu like symptoms. To date there has been no confirmed reports of illness linked to the recalled products, however people worried about sickness are advised to seek professional health care.

The voluntary recall comes after a routine testing at the manufactory facility that raised interest from U.S food and Drug Administration and Canadian food inspection agency, who support the choice to recall the suspected Listeria Monocytogens contaminated frozen waffle products.
